How Our Telephone Reassurance Calls Work

Okay Today’s friendly automated reassurance calls ask someone if they are OKAY TODAY according the schedule they chose.

When our call is answered, a prerecorded message asks the person to press 1 on their phone (excludes rotary phones) to confirm that they are OKAY TODAY, or press 3 if they need non-emergency assistance.

If the person presses 1 indicating that they are OKAY TODAY, the person is thanked and the call ends.

If the person presses 3 to indicate they need non-emergency assistance, they hear “Someone will be notified”, the call ends, and an alert notification is sent to the contact(s).

If the line’s busy, or someone’s preoccupied and can’t answer the phone, we call back up to 2 more times in 30 minute intervals.

In the event that the person does not answer, an answering machine continues to answer, someone answers but does not press 1 or 3, or they repeatedly press incorrect numbers, we send an alert notification the person’s designated contact(s).

Important: Please be aware that Okay Today calls are pre-recorded messages. We do not have live callers, perform ‘wellness assessments’, or contact emergency services. The person’s designated contacts are best able to assess the person’s situation and level of response required.

Note: While we do our best to call at selected times, call volumes may slightly effect call times. Where possible, choose times that include minutes. For example, instead of 9:00 am, choose 9:10 am.

Calls may temporarily be disrupted due to circumstances beyond our control, such as natural disasters, power outages, etc..

What Happens When Contacts Receive An Alert From Okay Today?

ALERT CALL SCENARIO

The Person Does Not Press 1 To Indicate They Are Okay, The Person Presses 3 To Indicate They Want Non-Emergency Assistance, There Is No Live Response To Calls, Or Incorrect Numbers Are Repeatedly Pressed:

  1. Okay Today initiates its ‘alert notification’ protocol.
  2. Okay Today places a call and sends an email to the primary contact (if email is provided).
  3. The contact answers the phone and hears a prerecorded message informing them that the person has not responded to our calls or that they have requested non-emergency assistance, directing them to press 1 to acknowledge receipt of the alert, and to receive further information.
  4. If the primary contact presses 1, all further alert notification calls cease.
  5. If the primary contact does not answer the call and confirm receipt of the alert, the secondary contact is notified in the same manner.
  6. If there is still no response from the secondary contact, calls will alternate between the primary and secondary contacts until either someone confirms receipt of the alert, or until midnight.
  7. If there is only a primary contact on file, then the primary contact will continue to receive calls until they confirm receipt of the alert or until midnight.
